Jack Greenwell, Durham miner and @FCBarcelona player and long-serving manager was born #OnThisDay in 1884.

As manager, he won five league titles and the Copa Del Rey twice for #Barca.

Greenwell played for @crooktown_afc and as a guest player in the @westaucklandfc side that won the ‘first world cup’.

Spotted by legendary Barca President Joan Gamper, he signed for the club & move to Catalonia in 1912. He played 88 times, winning two league titles. (2/6)
After retiring as a player, Greenwell was appointed Barca manager. He won 5 league titles, the Copa Del Rey twice & remains the longest serving manager in the club’s history. In 1996, Bobby Robson, of Langley Park Colliery, became the 2nd Durham miner to manage Barca (3/6)
While in Spain, Greenwell also managed @valenciacf_en, @RCDEspanyol, @RCD_Mallorca and @RealSporting, winning a further two league championships and a Copa Del Rey

After the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, Greenwell moved to South America. (4/6)
There, he coached @Universitario to the Peruvian championship.

He was appointed manager of the Peru national team - leading them to the 1939 Copa America - beating Uruguay 2-1 in the final. (5/6)
