A mini thread about my thoughts in dynasty about Diontae Johnson
JuJu usage in Pitt has disappointing this year with him having a 6.4 yards/target best for 110 in the NFL. You know who has been worse? Diontae Johnson at 5.9 yards/target is 125th in the NFL! Dude has had 140 targets and only has 827 yards 😳. That is next level inefficiency
You know who have a worse catch % and more yards?
Nelson Agholor - 60.3%, 839 yards, 78 targets
DJ Moore - 57.0%, 1092 yards, 107 targets
Let’s take a detour to show you who has the worst catch % in the NFL? You probably guessed it Mr. Jerry Jeudy coming in at 195th with a 44.3%
His usage is concerning. His average target distance is 7.7 which is 93rd đŸ˜±His air yards share has him with 1074 good for 29th in the NFL, Due to him having the #1 HOG rate in the NFL.
He has minimal slot usage with only 52 snaps out of the slot. Which you’d would expect to see from a player with such a low yards/target stat as he is listed amongst Hunt, Eifert, Fitzgerald, and Robinson. All guys running underneath routes or being used out of the backfield.
His yards/Rec is not much better. He is 107th in the NFL surrounded by guys who play the TE position, or guys who spend a lot of time in the slot. Keenan Allen, Dalton Schultz, Shenault in the same area.
Twitter told me he is a route running technician as there are numerous articles/threadson the topic. The problem is that route running by itself doesn’t translate to stats/production in the NFL. Look at Jeudy this year everyone’s fav route runner to come out in the past years.
Everyone wants to see who the next Antonio Brown is in Pitt. They’re almost identical in size but that’s it. Antonio Brown is a unicorn, we need to stop comparing players to him. We probably will not see a player his size do what he did in Pittsburgh for a long time, if ever.
Tough for an offense to be consistent with both JuJu & Diontae doing what they are doing. We know Ben loves Diontae, but if I have to pick a player in that offense going forward that I want it is Claypool. Someone who has already shown how explosive they are in that offense.
I’m not saying Diontae is a bad player IRL or for fantasy, he is just not a building block player in fantasy to me. if someone offers you a young player plus a pick or an established veteran like Evans or Allen I’m taking that every-time deal everytime.
