1. Baazigar: He exploded on screen in a unique Anti-Hero avatar. What made his portrayal so layered is how he was able to evoke sympathy despite doing morally reprehensible acts. He was neither the hero nor villain. He was a human fighting for justice in his own twisted way.
2. Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa: In this film Shahrukh finds the extraordinary in the ordinary. Rare instance where the hero is a loveable loser. He is relatable because of how real he is. Shahrukh’s rawness and innocence is what makes this such a memorable character.
3. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge: The role that defined his career and cemented him as The King of Romance. Raj became the ideal partner in the mind and hearts of millions across the globe. This little scene beautifully captures Raj and Simran’s relationship.
4. Devdas: Shahrukh didn’t play this role he lived it. After this film ended he didn’t act for 1 year. He said he enjoyed simply feeling sad. SLB said by the time they shot the climax, Shahrukh had become Devdas in his real life. Watch how intense he is without raising his voice.
5. Veer Zaara: Out of all the romantic characters he has played this ranks as my favourite. This role is all heart and poetry. Every dialogue uttered sounds like a beautiful and enchanting poem. This scene beautifully illustrates the character of Veer Pratap Singh
6. Swades: The most critically acclaimed role of his career. An earthy and grounded portrayal that perfectly captures the angst of a man living far away from his homeland. When the realities close in on him, he breaks down into tears. Pivotal scene in this masterpiece.
7. Who doesn’t love a great redemption story.? Shahrukh plays Kabir Khan with a controlled and simmering intensity. One of the finest hour in his acting career that is full of several scenes that rank among his best. However, is it the unforgettable climax that stands out for me.
8. My Name is Khan: The result of months of meticulous research and the emotional depth of Shahrukh. He creates a memorable portrayal that has loads of heart and is sensitive to the Autistic community. This scene showcases the work he put in along with his incredible talent.
9. Fan: The two most complex roles of his career and the finest double act I have ever seen. Shahrukh creates two distinct personalities that hit way too close too home. So many of the scenes mirror real life. This is my all time favourite scene in his career. King.
