Two nights after LOST premiered, my friends and I ( @andrewew , @ajgoldberg) went for a late night snack at the 101 Coffee Shop. We were gushing about the pilot. WTF is that monster? Where’s the island? Etc.

The guy at the table beside us is clearly eavesdropping...
Now @andrewew leans over and is like what’s the deal? Which is when we realize this guy has a hat with LOST embroidered on it. In italics no less!! Remember this is the week of the premiere. There’s no merch yet. This is pilot wrap swag...
Sure enough, he introduces himself as Bryan Burk. An EP on the show and JJ Abrams’ producing partner.

An hour later, Burky (as we’d come to call him) had bought us dinner, introduced us to half the cast over speaker phone, and set up a date for us to come visit the Alias set.
A few months later, I was interning for Burky and @bad_robot. A year later, I was his assistant... I got to see the genesis of Star Trek and Cloverfield. I learned more there than four years of film school. Sorry @USC. But it’s true.

Fast forward nearly 15 years...
I’ve established a solid career. I owe a lot of that to Burky’s generosity... and of course a simple twist of fate.

We could have easily gone to Swingers that night.

Thank you @101coffeeshop. You changed my life.
