On this last day of break I can say that taking a break really showed me how hard I have been working. I don't want to go back to that in the same way. I want to be much more intentional about how I spend my time this year.

So.. drumroll: my first campaign:
/1
Please don't send me review requests on weekends/holidays. As a matter of fact, no non-urgent work requests. Reviews are not emergencies. I don't want the request on a weekend, the reminders and "you are late!" admonishments on weekends (as those are in week intervals).
/2
As a community, we set our own standards and expectations. The expectation that we all work 365 days a week has gotten old... and is also detrimental.

Out with it.

We can require editorial software (& editors) to not send emails on weekends. It is not that large a request.
/3
(btw, I say this as an associate editor. I know w/end is the only time to do some of this work as an editor, but surely we can either choose the reviewers whenever but then send the request Monday morning, or, better, have the software modified to schedule emails with delay)
/end
Adding that we can all take quick action on this: reject all requests to review on weekends. I bet pretty quickly the requests will start coming in on week days :).

Who will protect our time -- and our leisure and rest time -- if not us??
