5 days ago, as @TracyAllardUCP, vice-chair of the UCP's Emergency Management Committee sat in Hawaii, it convened to discuss serious delays in vaccinations. Jason

Kenney & Tyler Shandro made excuses. Then AHS quietly released this.

Albertans are rightly concerned. #ableg https://twitter.com/rossmckenzieAG/status/1345390338819518464
In the midst of justified anger re: travel, we can't let this get lost. It reveals a fundamental flaw in Kenney's character - his skewed priorities & the lack of leadership or accountability that've clearly infected or perhaps informed his recruitment of Ministers & MLAs #ableg
When Jason Kenney cares about something, things get done.

Look at the work he put in to gain leadership of the UCP. He learned the systems inside out, recruited people to work & manipulate them, used every trick & 'innovation' in the book. A massive coordinate effort. #ableg
Once elected, he wasted no time introducing legislation & regulations to implement his plans, in appointing people across a broad network of agencies, boards & commissions to help him do so.

He moved quickly to dominate & remove any obstacle to his agenda. #ableg
Sadly, it seems that level of foresight, effort & commitment extends only where he sees political value or advantage for himself.

It's been utterly absent in combating the 2nd wave of COVID-19 & or, it seems, in developing a focused, effective vaccination strategy for AB #ableg
Jason Kenney was quick to jump in front of the vaccine parade to try & distract from the disastrous impact of his refusal to listen to take action needed to curb spiking COVID case #s

He was quick to make grand promises of vaccinating 29,000 health professionals by Dec 31 #ableg
(Much as he was quick to jump in front of the cameras in Oct. to talk about the federal rapid-testing pilot for international travelers - a program that will likely prove quite useful for his Ministers & MLAs as they return from their tropical vacations.) #ableg
Because Jason Kenney loves to make announcements & take credit for good news whether he's earned any of it or not.

But he's seemingly allergic to doing the actual hard work of following through once the political benefit to him is gone. #ableg
For example, Jason Kenney failed to achieve even 50% of his vaccination goal. And he & Min Shandro refused to take responsibility, instead blaming AHS & claiming they hadn't actually said what they're on tape having said.

Across the province, frontline healthcare workers have been working tirelessly to protect & save lives, risking their own lives & health to do so while they begged the Premier to take action to slow the 2nd wave.

They sacrifice their holidays & time with their families. #ableg
As his popularity fell, Jason Kenney jumped in front of the cameras to promise them "hope on the horizon" in the form of rapid vaccinations.

Min Shandro said he was "grateful & proud now to show them that we're here for them." #ableg
But instead of vaccinations, 1000s of frontline healthcare workers got news that while they gave up their holidays & sacrificed to save lives, their gov't representatives flouted advisories to take tropical vacations.

And that the Premier doesn't care enough to act. #ableg
If Jason Kenney was willing to invest half the effort he's put into uprooting & privatizing the very healthcare system & displacing the workers that've seen us through this pandemic into getting vaccine doses out of freezers & into arms, we'd be far further along. #ableg
Instead, we're here. Albertans who've spent months making sacrifices to support each other, now understandably angry, frustrated & demoralized as they realize their Premier & his gov't are apparently unwilling to do the same while fumbling an essential ray of hope. #ableg
Seniors, healthcare & essential workers, *all* ABns deserve a clear explanation of what's gone wrong w/ vaccinations. They deserve accountability & transparency about how it will be addressed & the road ahead.

They deserve the leadership Jason Kenney's failing to provide #ableg
I encourage all Albertans to write to their MLAs, to the Premier, to Ministers to demand accountability & action not only for their arrogant entitlement, but on the rollout of vaccines that will be essential to getting AB back on its feet. #ableg
Addendum:

I just saw this post from a business owner in Edm-City Centre who just rec’d a text today telling him he was exposed to someone w/ COVID-19 *over a month ago*.

While UCP Cabinet members & MLAs soaked up tropical sun, this was the state of our tracing system. #ableg
This is another example of how Jason Kenney loves to make announcements to look good, but utterly fails to follow through on execution.

In May, he said robust testing & contact tracing would be key to reopening the economy & getting closer to normal life again. #ableg
But over the summer, despite knowing school reopening, flu season & colder weather would increase risk of COVID resurgent, he failed to make investments needed to prepare.

By mid-Oct our contact tracing system was collapsing & is clearly still struggling to catch up. #ableg
Again, Jason Kenney wanted all the reward w/ none of the work. To be able continue to forge ahead w/ his political agenda while ignoring the real needs of Albertans & the impact of his decisions.

And now he’s doing it again. #ableg
His fumbling w/ vaccinations, unconscionable delay to act to curb the 2nd wave, & refusal to hold UCP Ministers/MLAs accountable for selfishly disregarding travel advisories - it’s all connected.

Jason Kenney puts his political interests ahead of the good of Albertans. #ableg
This could prove incredibly damaging, even deadly, as we continue through the 2nd wave.

Albertans deserve a leader who’ll set aside his own interest to do what’s right, who actually believes we’re all in this together & acts accordingly.

That’s not Jason Kenney. #ableg
