today, 11 years ago I wombled into the Priory and managed to get sober (and stay sober since). So happy birthday me. 11 years and one day ago, it would have seemed absolutely impossible.
but i know there are a lot of people who are in similar spots to me, those 11y and a day ago. Or heading that way, or simply feeling they're drinking too much and it's unhealthy. So, some thoughts.
it's okay to ask for help. it's important to. and you'll find a lot of relief in doing so. no-one is going to judge you.
if you don't feel you can talk to your faily or friends then your GP or a helpline will always offer advice. there's lots out there (NHS: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/drug-addiction-getting-help/) . AA isn't the only option (and no, it's not only about God).
the past year might have exacerbated drinking problems. This doesn't make you a bad person. You're an unwell person trying to get well - and stay well.
and - for those who aren't struggling but see others doing so - help out. pandemics and lockdown aren't the times to be sanctimous and judgemental. if anything, they need more help than ever.
