Hey y'all! If you're interested in learning more about open science or open research - have you thought about applying for OLS-3, the third round of our 16-week open research mentoring program? Great for the open-curious from all research domains.
A thread:

First frequent question: "Is my project relevant - I'm not a life scientist?!"
The answer: YEP! Any research or science domain is welcome. We did begin originally targeting life scientists, but the content isn't bio-specific, it's open-specific.

Q: My job role is (x) - can I apply?
A: this program is for you! Previous participants have included:

Our format over the 16-week program is to meet with your assigned mentor one week and meet (virtually via Zoom) with the entire cohort of OLS participants the next week. Every cohort call, we have a mix of guest speakers amd participatory activities - some written, some spoken.
We ask you to apply to OLS with a project idea in mind, so that you can apply your open science learnings in real time. If you need to bounce ideas off the OLS-team we're happy to chat via email [team AT http://openlifesci.org ] or a quick video call!
Let's talk about accessibility! We're still learning as we go but we try out best: all calls are transcribed in real time via @otter_ai to help ppl follow along. After calls we'll correct the transcripts and upload it to YouTube, so it's fine if you miss a call- you can catch up!
As well as uploading call recordings to YouTube, we also try to alternate our cohort calls across at least two different time zones, since our participants so far have come from six different continents around the world - there's no time zone that fits for everyone!
We try to match participants with mentors who have relevant skills to the project they're working on, but also try to look for language and timezone matches where appropriate - if you prefer a spanish-speaking mentor or you'd really like to work with an ecologist, let us know!
This round, we'll also be offering micro-grants, focusing on participants from low and middle income countries - if you need another headset, a new webcam, high-speed internet, or something else we might be able provide - let us know so we can help you be part of OLS-3.
That's all for now, but if we missed anything you need to know please tweet us or email us! Contact info and application details are here: https://openlifesci.org/
We can't wait for your applications
applications are open until the end of January 11th (any timezone)
