Thinking about how many sacred sites have been/will be desecrated in the name of US imperialism and capitalism. For example, settlers stole clay from my tribe's most sacred site, the Cliffs of Gay Head, to make face masks. My people were literally formed from that clay.
According to our creation story, Moshup the giant stained the cliffs red with the blood of whales and then formed the Wampanoag out of the beautiful red clay that resulted. In the 20th century, settlers took so much of the clay that the cliffs began to erode.

I'm also Lakota, and of course our most sacred site was also desecrated. To understand the pain Mount Rushmore causes, imagine if Notre Dame Cathedral was permanently on fire. Just constant, neverending destruction of the sacred. That's what it is like for me.
