How Coining Terms Can Propel Your Marketing Strategy.

I tuned in on a brilliant conversation between @david_perell and @jackbutcher where they discussed marketing, the fidelity of an idea, and copywriting.

Here are 10 things I learned.

👇
1/ Coining a term is like coining a term.

Rearrange words to create new terms - easy to remember and to repeat. This aids the virality.

Share it with the world and see if it resonates - be receptive to the social feedback.

Examples:
- Build Once, Sell Twice
- Personal Monopoly
2/ Own the term.

Don't be afraid of copycats.

Everyone that tries to copy you, ends up promoting you.

Make it generic, but not too much. Mind the curiosity gap.

You want people to say "I wish I had said that.."
3/ It takes 50 gallons of sap to create one gallon of maple syrup - @david_perell

Keep publishing, you only need 1 winner.

Packaging your ideas the right way is crucial, it maximizes the % of success

Don't be afraid

Pay attention to what resonates in casual conversations

4/ Refine, publish, and build

Keep what sticks, discard the rest.

Build a portfolio of coined terms.

Build a serendipity vehicle - @david_perell

Create a library of digital assets and make it easy for people to find you online.

And, there's your personal brand.
5/ Embrace the ripple effect

People sharing your intellectual property is the holy grail.

Your I.P. travels the worlds on your behalf, while you stay put.

The world helps to build your personal brand and share your language.
6/ Great travelers are often great writers.

The more you've seen from the world, the more people you've met, the more layers you can use to filter your idea through, the better you can stress test it.

Envision yourself to be so good to beat your worst critic.
7/ The world rewards the people who are best at communicating ideas, not the people with the best ideas.

Packaging your idea is key.

Make it something that someone else wants to unpack.

Position that as a product.

Be great at communicating your product and you're way ahead.
8/ Make 1 decision that eliminates a 1,000 decisions.

Constraints enhance creativity.

The more constraints you apply, the more your creativity is required. The better and more unique results, you're getting.

The fidelity of an idea only depends on your unlimited creativity.
9/ People don't ever get tired of a good idea.

We keep listening to the same music again and again, while other 'hits' come and go. Why?

Quality outweighs quantity a zillion times

Keep publishing, see what resonates and build upon

If you're in for the long term, you're fine.
10/ Wrap it up

1️⃣ Coin a term.

2️⃣ Easy to remember and repeat.

3️⃣ Keep publishing.

4️⃣ See what resonates.

5️⃣ Double down on that, neglect the rest.

6️⃣ Build your serendipity of vehicle.
