I have been teaching virtually since September, so as my colleagues across the province move online for the rest of this week, and longer for secondary, I asked my students if they have advice for teachers and students. Here is what some of them had to say:
For teachers:

Share slides or summaries to help students retain info
Have one on one conversations with students about academic progress
Students may not speak up if they don't understand; go slow
Designate extra help time every week
For teachers:

Ensure your students understand before you progress
Don't keep doing normal tests; instead, have projects where students can show what they have learned.
For teachers:

Don't have super long lessons where you are talking the whole time
Make lessons more interactive
Have fun and be creative
For students:

go for a walk every day
stay off your phone (turning off the notifications will help)
Use a planner
Do your work right after classes end
Time management is key
Be sure to listen during class
Focus on the lesson
Take notes
This is for #OntEd

More suggestions from students:

This one is for teachers: record your lessons so that students can rewatch them if they need to, or they can watch the lesson if they missed class.
This is some longer advice for students.
Here is a screen capture of advice for both teachers and students.
