1L Spring, 2011. Crim Law. Day fucking one, we learn we punish people to reduce bad acts. Also day fucking one, we learn that punishing bad actors irrefutably doesn’t effectually deter future bad acts… it just doesn’t. Not here; other countries got it figured out.
Our problem is we are entitled, vindictive, and intentionally conditioned to be obedient. Systems of oppression, all your -isms, are the tools that made us that way. Consequentially, the “justice” part of “criminal justice” serves the interest of those in control, not us.
So like, look at Florida’s felony disenfranchisement/poll tax issue. A lot of moving parts. Folks have done their time but still owe restitution/fines, so they’re barred from voting despite having their right to vote restored. That’s the overall issue.
The individual issues that build the overall issue tho… that’s supposed to be “justice,” but is instead control. I’m high, sorry if this makes no sense.

However, their actual purposes are instead 1) condition us to correlate “debt” with “morally bad/unfit,”2) generate revenue for the gov’t IN ADDITION TO general taxes, 3) indenture specific groups of people to ensure the power dynamic remains lopsided.
Perceived, or “advertised” function centers us, the citizens. Actual function centers and enriches only the ruling class while back door legalizing - SURPRISE!!! - slavery AND training you to ENJOY/DEPEND ON your own subjugation.

Look at it this way: if the country was actually just and ran as we BELIEVE it does, every step in the criminal system would essentially be a checks and balance of the authority we grant our government. The citizens are the ruling class and our elected govt SERVES us.

And so on and so on. A JUST & FAIR criminal system is one that doesn’t only serve to restore a victim, but also serves the accused by scrutinizing the govt’s wishes to punish its boss.

Our ACTUAL system 1) incentivizes bad acts; 2) flips the power dynamic to where the govt exploits its citizens instead of serve them; 3) conditions us not to question our unjust system. Our government should be a nonprofit but is Act One Cher Horowitz, but also a bigot.
Small towns have speed traps to fund the city/line the pockets of those in charge. Trials are “guilty unless we like you.” DAs protect the cops and write just the collateral.

What happened at the capitol is a redo of what was supposed to happen in Michigan. Because our elected officials and civil servants control us instead of serve us, they trained us who to hate (marginalized folks) and who to root for (whiteness/capitalism).
Today, we saw bad actors, assisted by the police, and absolved by some of the same senators they planned to hold hostage. Instead of “we had a failure of law enforcement from top down,” it’s “well actually, those were antifa dressed in red hats.”
We now know what they are allowed to get away with… it will be normalized and next time it will be more dangerous. Rome wasn’t coup’d in a day.

Trumpito campaigned in 2016 on “if you see somebody you don’t agree with, punch em and I’ll pay the tab.” In 2020, we had SEVERAL government builds occupied by armed assholes for the crusades of 1) don’t tell me to wear a mask; and 2) you don’t know how to count if I lose.
Additionally, we have increased targeted shootings at protests that are absolved and justified by EVERY ELECTED OFFICIAL REGARDLESS OF POLITICAL AFFILIATION. We had cops TARGETING JOURNALISTS WHILE LIVE ON NATIONAL TELEVISION without consequence.
So now what??? There’s going to be a next time. They learned that they will be let out a side door after they’ve had their fun in the offices. The dynamic allows cops and bigots to scrap here and there to keep up the illusion of fairness, but they’ll always be allowed in, armed.
Armed white protestors are met with normal uniforms and water bottles. VIGILS FOR THOSE KILLED BY COPS ARE PEPPERSPRAYED.
