Today, we're looking closer at #1 - Client Acquisition.

Step 1: Be good at what you do.

We're looking at reading the proper resources, asking the right questions, being CPR/First-Aid certified, and acquiring the relevant certifications and/or degrees.

1/10 thread. https://twitter.com/mgolteez/status/1346157511066480640
Books -

1. Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe.
2. Functional Training for Sports by @BodybyBoyle
3. @EricCressey, blog posts.

Degrees -

1. The applicable within the science fields.

Certifications -

1. CPT or CSCS from @NSCA
2. @acefitness or @canfitpro

Step 2: Reach out to your network.

While, you may not be confident, nor, competent yet, your network of friends, family, and acquaintances want to support you. Especially as, training is sometimes tough enough. They'd rather do it with someone they trust and respect.

4/10
When I left my first commercial space and opened my own personal training studio, this is the e-mail that I sent to my network - which was extremely well-received.

(In retrospect, a few words I'd love to change, but mostly happy with it).

Step 3: Referrals.

Now, the focus is on the clients that are training with you.

They are your greatest asset. If you impress them, they'll pass on the word.

If they are happy with your services, then kindly, ask them for referrals, they'll be more than happy to help.

Step 4: Marketing.

Many will start here, however, I believe you'll find more success setting the foundations of your services first, then executing here.

Here are some of the tools I'd recommend:

1. Social media.
2. Flyer drops.
3. Networking events.

7/10
Once you get here though, you'll need an angle.

As there is a plethora of personal trainers out there - what makes your different?

Are you great with young females?
Are you passionate about the rehab-performance bridge?
Are you a specialist in weight-loss?

8/10
Once you find your angle, double-down on it for now. Become that guy/girl. It'll help set you apart.

For instance,

1. @EricCressey "the shoulder guy".
2. @BodybyBoyle "the functional training guy".
3. @thereadystate "the mobility guy".

What is your angle?

9/10
So, in sum:

Step 1. Set the foundations.
Step 2. Reach out to your immediate network.
Step 3. As clientele grows, reach out to them for referrals.
Step 4. Market your services.
