#StarTrekDiscovery Thread: People saying that this applies to Captains in general, especially Kirk...

She’s been Captain material all along, but the system failed her by not helping her deal with her trauma from an early age. (1/5) https://twitter.com/codysdax/status/1347640300920070151
She would have been Captain if her trauma had been dealt with, but she grew up on Vulcan a world of repressed emotions.

She tried to become a Vulcan to deal with her pain, but she was still human.

We’ve seen her grow and evolve on Discovery, to process what happened. (2/5)
Black women IRL have always had to be the best and try to deal with generational trauma, people calling Burnham a Mary Sue have missed the point and a learning experience.

Welcome to Star Trek, the franchise that’s been giving you different perspectives for over 50 years! (3/5)
Burnham emotionally repressed what happened to her parents, the moment she saw a Klingon again all of her unresolved trauma came flooding back. What we saw during the first two episodes of the series was a woman in pain trying to process her trauma now and as a child. (4/5)
There’s more complexity to this topic and I don’t think a series of tweets can do this character’s journey or the topic justice.

This is why it’s important to listen to black women in this fandom and in general. (5/5)
