Why we think Liam Payne's songwriting career is sabotaged, a thread:
DISCLAIMER : At any point in this thread, if we mention the name of Louis Tomlinson or any other member of One Direction, please know that we are also OT5 and there is no way we could disrespect or dismiss the work of any of them. Never. It could be only used to take it as +
+an example in this whole sad situation. If we agree that Louis is sabotaged by his own label so is Liam. In this thread, we are focusing on his songwriting as being one of many other aspects where he is sabotaged.
In the beginning of band, Liam didn't get to write on a lot of songs on "Up all night" but 3 writting credits on a their first album is still honorable knowing that he was only 17. For "Take me home", he got to write 6 songs. Both those albums were more bubblegum pop but +
The band changed their sound to something more pop-rock in 2013 with their 3rd album "Midnight Memories" on which, Liam got more writing credits (09) from 18 tracks. He also wrote on 10 songs for "Four" and 8 for "Made in the a.m."
And he also wrote on "Home"
So Liam has a total of 36 writing credits between 5 albums released in 5 years. Untill 2015, he was knows as a powerful songwriter in the band along with Louis Tomlinson and were described together as a great pair of songwriters
After the hiatus announcement, Liam was also rumored to write for other artists. It doesn't matter if he really wrote for them, what matters is his reputation in that field and how he was praised for his abilities
So, if this is Liam's reputation untill then, how did it come that the majority of the fandom thinks he's more into melodies? Well, there is this video from 2017 full of scripted answers where Liam said it himself. We searched for other proofs stating the same thing but there +
Is nothing about it before this video. Since then, it seems like the whole world forgot his contributions during the 1D times. It took only 1 video to erase that from the fandom's memory.
But let's move on. On his First Time Ep, which counts 4 tracks, Liam has only one writting credit
For his debut album, LP1, we used 3 sources to check every song writing credits ; Genius, Spotify and Google. If we believe Genius, Liam has 11 writing credits on a total of 22 tracks including the bonus tracks. And then, when we use Spotify and Google, it's only 8.
Let's take All I want (for Christmas) as an example. We have 2 sources that say 2 different things but then, we have Liam talking about it with his own words.

Genius Spotify
So if he wrote the song, why does he not have his name in the writing credits section in every source? The song is beautiful and meand a lot to him, why hide his participation in its making?
Another painful example is with the song "Remember". In this
video we can see Liam making some changes in the lyrics (like only someone experienced in the field can do it) but he's not listed as a songwriter for it.
The video proves that he can write on a song (or the whole song) and we wouldn't even know since he's not credited for it. And the fact that this song is a vulnerable one and fans favorite makes it even worse. Taking those 2 examples, we can rightfuly question the writing credits
When Liam can write beautiful lyrics with deep meanings, his debut album has a very sexual theme. It's not surprising for the music direction he took but it looks more like someone else's decision aka the label. If we look at Strip that down success, we understand +
+why Liam was trapped in this style for the rest of his tracks. Making radio hits with a sexual centred theme is not the problem here. The problem is it's not him. How to explain that? Not when half of his album setlist is made of collaborations.
The first thought that came to my mind when I read this quote from 30/12 : "Taking a different path in 2021 or returning to your roots where you were writing songs like Home and End of the days?" Because this album is not his first experience in music.
In conclusion: the confusion surrounding Liam's work was on purpose since the beginning of his solo career. Fans being disappointed about his lyrics is understandable but we have to look at the whole picture : why didn't Liam keep writing beautiful songs like he used to do in+
1D? Why did Louis keep his signature but he couldn't ? Why are fans so convinced that he never wrote lyrics and can't write them? The reason is simple : his lyrics are also powerful. Let people forget he did write, let make him a melodies man, so he can't write another Home
Or write another version of "Only for the brave". As we said, if we agree that Louis is sabotaged, Liam's sabotage is more disgusting because his work wasn't spared. And the main question we can ask now is: Why is Liam Payne so heavily sabotaged by his own label? For what reason
An amazing artist like him, with his intelligence and sensitiveness, is not allowed anymore to express himself now that he's solo?

You see the reason? We see it too. Thank you for your time and interest, Liam deserves better and we can all show him out support.
