so many things conspiracy theorists try to explain with elaborate theories of evil, malicious actors with a giant complicated plan can be easily, completely, and much more realistically explained by people just being selfish, greedy, and/or incompetent
the idea that there is chemical warfare in our food to shut down our spiritual perception is silly, based in nothing, and unrealistic. it is true though that there are chemicals in our food that fundamentally alter our brains, bodies, & hormones in ways we don’t fully know yet
that does not need to be purposeful warfare. the obvious, logical, and truly incontrovertible reason is profit. humans are greedy. these food companies can make more money if they use cheap ingredients with a long shelf life that maximize the salt, sweet, & fat properties
the fda is incompetent and has not adapted for the modern world where one chemical can be banned for being carcinogenic, but then the chemical formula is tweaked just enough to technically make it a new chemical that’s legal. the fda can’t keep up, so we don’t know what’s safe
is there a malicious purposeful element? yes, food scientists have figured out the exact ratios of salt, sugar, and fat that make food essentially addictive. but is that part of a spirituality-killing plan? no. it’s to make more money! like it always is!
could the chemicals in food disconnect you spiritually? sure, i guess. we don’t know everything they do but they can cause brain fog, artificial energy levels and crashes, and they mess with our hunger and satiety signals, which would make you less connected to your body
i think there are much more plausible and provable explanations for disconnection to spirituality, however - our concrete jungles remove us from the natural world, the crushing pace of capitalism gives us less time than our predecessors to sit and think, we’re overstimulated
the reason conspiracy theorists are annoying and impossible to talk to is bc if you disagree with their premise, they’ll say, “oh so you think there aren’t bad chemicals in your food? you think the rich & powerful don’t try to control us? you believe cnn, you sheep”
this is also why i KNOW conspiracy theorists have not “done their own research” and will inevitably have nothing of value to say bc a few minutes of research into the science, systems, technology, people involved, & well documented problems we already knew of prove them wrong
you cannot believe these conspiracies if you research from unbiased, verifiable sources whatsoever. not researching it is a prerequisite for believing it. even a few minutes of critical thinking makes them fall apart. they’re more probably explained by very common human behavior
there is no logical or substantive reason to jump over very probable and often provable explanations to ones that are unproven and often unprovable, unrealistic, and create many other huge problems that would need to be explained for it to make sense (like who? and why?)
being a critical thinker is fundamentally incoherent with being a conspiracy theorist - but they deeply believe they are the critical thinkers bc they can’t see beyond a binary of unquestioningly accepting mainstream narratives, or believing their ridiculous way of explaining it
many conspiracy theories start with a kernel of truth in their premise - for example here, chemicals in our food are altering our brains. it’s not something everyone knows so feels like enlightened knowledge, but it’s extremely provable. then they never think critically again!
it’s like they took “critical thinking for dummies” and learned to question mainstream narratives, realize there are secretive power structures, & that our government propagandizes & lies to us - and then they thought that was the end of the class and stopped there.
they skip over every probable, rational, prevalent, evidence-based explanation either bc they don’t understand them/their fav youtuber didn’t tell them to think about them, & purposefully ignore logical, common explanations that involve racism, sexism bc THEY want to be victims
they refuse to take into account historical trends, societal context, & anything that would make them the oppressor instead of the oppressed & jump to the explanation that fits their worldview where they’re superior, people they hate did it, & no effort is required from them
i know a lot of people will hear the kernel of truth in the premise and think that must mean there’s some truth to their conclusion but that is not true & they don’t deserve that benefit of the doubt. the logical leap from the premise to conclusion has no plausible justification
conspiracy theorists try to make you think they know more bc they’ll mention things you don’t know about but don’t fall it! it’s just way easier to make up random self-serving crap on the fly with no plausibility or logical basis than is for you to have researched everything ever
just bc a conspiracy theorist says one true thing doesn’t mean there must be even one truth in how they interpret it and explain it. the two are completely unconnected but they will insist that if you don’t believe them, you’re a mainstream media drone. they’re not very bright.
they don’t spend a moment looking into where their own theories came from, who wants them to believe them, & why. i personally have no idea how to get through to a conspiracy theorist bc their arguments are illogical & emotional, so i try to talk to people just getting into them
conspiracy theories are fundamentally untrue bc they involve unknown people somehow coordinating impossible things where nobody snitches for motives we don’t know and there’s never an iota of a paper trail, now or in past decades/centuries! that’s not how anything works
i know that a lot of people are interested in learning truths outside the mainstream narrative but haven’t gone too deep & don’t know all this context & character so i really hope i can help people in that position recognize that they’re bad faith actors slinging useless bullshit
i can even explain many conspiracy theorists using the same common behaviors & without some malicious motive. they’re incompetent in not being critical thinkers, selfish in wanting popularity & clout, and greedy grifters who profit off their youtube channels & podcasts
they’re usually selfish on a deeper level too since their theories always make them the victim or the good guy & find a way to blame oppressed people for being the ~real~ oppressors. (jews run the world, welfare queens, trump won in a landslide, BLM was fake & paid for by soros)
the worst conspiracy theories always come down to antisemitism, racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, etc at their core so the theory is really just creating a worldview to justify their prejudices, sate their fear of losing societal status, & feel like smart special boys
in conclusion, conspiracy theories are not only silly, they’re also irrational, deeply improbable, based on misinformation, emotion, conjecture, & imagination of what the people they hate must be like. & they’re used to covertly spread hateful ideologies by narcissistic idiots
conspiracy theorists try to make you think they know more or are smarter or are more open-minded than you so i finish this by imploring you to never, ever let them make you believe that. they’re just very fast liars who constantly pivot bc they’re assholes incapable of logic.
