As part of our #PeopleFriendlyStreets programme, traffic filters in Highbury West and Highbury Fields are now active. Please visit this page for full details: https://www.islington.gov.uk/roads/people-friendly-streets/highbury
We’re working to create a safer, greener, healthier and fairer Islington for everyone. #PeopleFriendlyStreets will help to achieve this, making it easier for local people to walk, cycle and use buggies and wheelchairs on their streets, whilst making space for social distancing.
We want to make streets that are better for everyone, including those with disabilities. That’s why, on #PeopleFriendlyStreets, every street, home and business will be accessible for those needing to use a car. Streets will also be quieter and safer for those with disabilities.
Resident safety is always a priority. We remain in close contact with the emergency services, to ensure they can access every street. We’re taking on board the feedback they are giving us, to ensure that #PeopleFriendlyStreets are easy for them to access quickly.
Why are we doing this now? Because @TfL modelling shows that, without action to improve streets, traffic will become worse than before the health emergency. So, we’re acting now to reduce pollution, congestion and danger on local roads.
Each #PeopleFriendlyStreets scheme is introduced on a trial basis and a year into each scheme, residents will be asked whether the measures should stay permanently. Find out more and read our Frequently Asked Questions here: https://www.islington.gov.uk/roads/people-friendly-streets
