What a waste of 24 hours of vital public messaging bandwidth over "5 miles from home" exercise
Derb. Police should never have given FPNs, only partially disowned
Ministers defended with no justification
Now Boris "caught" cycling 7 miles from home even though that is legal

Just one wrong public authority defending another and all this time they could have been actually focussing on what matters for reducing transmission
And predictably the fixed penalty notices issued to the two walkers in Derbyshire have been withdrawn making the ministers’ defence of them even more damaging https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/13713059/two-women-surrounded-cops-fined-drive-park-dropped/
"We recognise that errors will occur in the face of complex guidance and legislation and it is important such situations are resolved quickly and fairly, as has been the case here." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-55625062
What really frustrates me is that we have been here before - not just *around* here but *exactly* here. I mean, it's exactly the same issues https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/jt5801/jtselect/jtrights/correspondence/Chairs-briefing-paper-regarding-Health-Protection-Coronavirus-Restrictions-England-Regulation-2020.pdf
This from The Guardian reflects what police have been telling me
