Let's find out

My favorite metaphor to explain management, is a family.
Players can perform on their own, but their environment and support are huge factors when it comes to actually be the bests.
The key to that environment, is the manager.

Of course, you'll need a father to organize the team.
Schedule, organization, rules and guidance.
You often might look up to him as an example of experience and valor.
A manager will enjoy his player's victories, and feel sad through their losses. Just like father & child.

You'll need a mother to take care of the team, unite everyone and share common values.
Every team has conflicts sooner or later, and a good manager has to listen, discuss, think and act in the best interest of the team, the family.
Love, attention and care are essential.

Although brothers and sisters aren't essential, they can mean a lot.
Having someone to talk to, a buddy who can understand you, play with you, help you whatever happens.
A brother in arms.
Managers can be a key, not only for the player's performance, but for their global life.

A manager is a staff member from an esports team/org.
He has several duties, like scheduling, team representation, relationship with organizations & sponsors, communication, etc.
He can also be in charge of recruitment, social media, and plenty of other stuff.

The best managers also have additional specialties, like event management, community management, coaching, performance management, health,...
Whether or not every tool is useful, comes down to the team's needs and wishes.
Up to you to create the best and most diverse toolbox!

Important caracteristics of a manager are:
Flexibility: every player, team & org will have his own habits. Your job is to adapt to them, not the opposite.
Excellent communication: keeping together ambitious young players while communicating externally, it isn't easy.

Your success comes through your players' success.
To be the best manager within a scene takes time, countless efforts and as much confidence as self-questioning.
Start at the bottom. Improve everyday. Grind your way to the top. Network. Create various projects.
Whatever the community gives you, give back the triple. At least.

I hope I've been able to share some thoughts about Esports Management, his role, his duties and his place within this amazing ecosystem of competitive gaming.
