Dustin Higgs
• set to be executed January 15th (MLK day)
• Willis Haynes, who committed the murders Higgs was convicted for, has sworn in writing that he didn't make him do it the way the prosecution argued

1) Lisa Montgomery was granted a stay of execution today after her attorney argued she isn’t “mentally competent.”

I agree that’s awful. I added her here because I don’t think the government should have the power to put people to death. Especially after they’re deemed incompetent.

Black people are disproportionately put on death row. If a black person kills a white person, they’re 9 times more likely to be executed than when it’s the other way around. A federal judge has halted the remaining executions of Higgs and Johnson! They're recovering for COVID-19, so it would be considered cruel and unusual due to those complications. Within the last few hours, Lisa Montgomery was executed despite her lawyers’ objections that she was incompetent and therefore should get a life sentence instead.

The decision to delay the executions was overturned. They are now scheduled to be executed today and tomorrow respectively. Higgs is INNOCENT and Johnson is INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED.
