A THREAD ON GRACE
1/I see a lot of Republicans calling for "grace." I'm writing a book on this topic right now and here is one of the most important things to know: ACCOUNTABILITY is grace. Grace is not letting people do what ever they want and looking the other way.

2/Grace creates a space between the person and the action and recognizes they are more than the thing they did. This means there is a path back for them if they take responsibility for their actions and commit to creating wholeness where they caused brokenness.
3/God's grace is unlimited; but here on earth more is required of you to get back in right relationship when you have caused harm. Grace is not a way to spiritually bypass bad behavior; just wave hand and say "oh let's let it go."
4/Grace helps us see the humanity and dignity in people who we might actually despise. "Loving is not liking" as @RichardRohrOFM likes to say.
5/Grace is really hard and is antithetical to the brutal way we have become accustomed to interacting with each other. But it never, ever means allowing people cause harm without being held accountable.
My book is out in September so I'll have much more on this!!
