the "nonbinarity is always transgender" white-led misinformation discourse rly did its round in setting us back on gender-sexual politics a whole decade right lol
not all nonbinary ppl experience transphobia or transmisogyny and not all nonbinary ppl are trans and nonbinary is not an specific gender or cluster of genders that you "transition" to
"trans/cis" is not quintessential universal binary where every human necessarily is one OR the other; you can be not trans but still not be cis cause these are political classes of socialization, not the new scientific sex binary but woke
watered-down online liberal queer politics rly sponsored this myth that "transgender is simply not identifying completely w/ your assigned gender" when really transexuality is a pathologizing system the patriarchy created to control gender-transgressing ppl and our bodies
it was never a voluntary, organically constructed self-identity, we become trans as our expression and socialization of gender start clashing with the structural limits of the white patriarchy, and the ontology of "transgender" and "transition" is forced onto us to rationalize it
and its not any and all dissident gender expression that gets streamlined into that category, but only those specific types that threaten the foundations of pseudoscientific sexism and gendered capitalism.
thus we get gender-sexual experiences that break cisnormativity but arent victimized by transphobia/transmisogyny, instead having their own oppressive class-ing. but not trans, bc these performances would not be legally or (pseudo)scientifically pathologized in that manner.
furthermore, treating nonbinarity blanketly as essentially "transgender" is an already stabilished colonial process, of overwriting our gender diversity through this white patriarchal idea of "transexuality" and erasing us our original culture to create trans consumers
"im nonbinary, but im not sure if im trans or not, how do i know?" do you ever have to accept, voluntarily or coersively, the labelling of transgender to access proper social rights, legal rights, or healthcare?
if there's never any situation in your life where saying youre trans is necessarily your only resource to comfortably exist as your gender, then why would you pretend its an useful identity for you?
"so are you saying that if we achieve true gender equality and liberation beyond the white patriarchy, the category of transgender would cease to exist, bc it'll have no institutional purpose of validating gender diversity anymore?" yes, exactly, and that should be the goal
