This is a thread about content warnings: what they are, how to use them, why you should use them, and how *I* personally use them on this account!

I tag posts/rt’s containing possibly triggering subject material with Content warnings (abbreviated to CW). This allows folks to stay safe and avoid stuff that can possibly trigger them.
Here is a friendly reminder of what it means to have a trigger:

Why should you add CW’s to your posts?
Well, safety, for one. Triggers are VERY serious. It’s in your best interest to try and make those following you feel safe
Also, there are people who just DON’T want to see certain kinds of content on their tl— like NSFW, for example.

How do CW’s work?
By tagging a post with ‘CW: NSFW’ (for example), those who don’t want to see this content can add the tag to their muted words.
Or— at the very least, you are warning ppl about what is in the tweet/picture so they can scroll past if they don’t wish to see

It’s very important to NOT censor any letters in your CW’s
you can’t add the * symbol to muted words, so doing ‘CW: r*pe’ doesn’t help those who want to mute the word.

There are many different ways to format content warnings:
cw: nsfw
CW // nsfw
CW #nsfw *
*using #hashtags allows ppl to be intentional w muting tags

Some ppl use TW (trigger warning) instead of CW. Either is fine! I personally use CW bc some of the stuff I tag isn’t necessarily a trigger— jt could just be content that folks would rather not engage with, and I want to warn them.

The most common CW’s *I* use include:
food, nsfw, death, sexual assault, rape, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, medical, hrt, blood, gore, needles, horror, violence, police brutality, suicide, execution
And ‘mention of [any of the above]’

If you are uncomfortable with any of the above, PLEASE mute those words!!
The format I use for multiple CW’s is:
CW: death , medical
With a space between each word & the comma.

The last two tweets are just how *I* specifically use content warnings for my audience! I would encourage EVERYONE to QRT this and let your followers know how you plan on using content warnings so that they can be aware!!

Anyways TLDR; using CW’s helps everyone and takes very little time to do. Please use them.
