Totally agree w/ this. The amount of people I've met under the impression that they were Japanese or mixed Japanese (like myself) due to their screen name only to find out they were white, and EXTREMELY reluctant on sharing that they were white, is numerous. https://twitter.com/rachel_thorn_en/status/1349768512860917764
I'm locking replies before I continue with what I want to say, because I know white people will be purposefully obtuse.
And that is people don't understand that there is a very specific kind of discomfort, or even trauma, mixed Asian kids have with something like names.

Sometimes you grow up feeling as though you aren't "enough" or even deserving of having a non-Western name. This is usually due to discrimination from family members on both sides, or being told "you're not x" or "you're not y enough."
And the fact that people really go online and treat non-Western names as an aesthetic when so many mixed or diasporic people struggle with their identity feels cruel and even beyond ignorant.
It's just some food for thought. If you're white and this makes you uncomfortable or you feel yourself getting defensive, maybe ask yourself why.
