Just found out that one of my HS teachers from @PASDPhantoms passed away this week. And thinking of the impact teachers can have on students decades later. Mr Grubbs was my brother’s favorite teacher and he expressed interest in our Indian culture. This was in the early 80s (1)
At the time, there were less than 5 Indian families in my hometown so this was a big deal in our house. Teachers are held in very high regard in my culture. And we show our appreciation for people w gifts of food and my mom made some of the best damn home cookin that night (2)
I was 8 yrs old and I was just blown away a teacher wants to bring his family to eat our food in our house. Years later, I couldn’t wait to be one of his students. When it was my time, I just didn’t want to disappoint Mr Grubbs. I soon realized what made him a great teacher (3)
He treated his HS students like young adults. He wanted to make us understand big picture life things over what’s in books/taking tests. That never left me. And years later, he kept in touch with everything I did. Always asking about my family. Always supporting my dreams (4)
He surprised us at a small event in Phoenixville when I was in town to just to say hi a few years ago. And I’ll never forget seeing him interact with my family and brother again. This was all because of the kindness in his heart from one dinner. God bless him. (5)
Teachers- remember, the impact you’re making today on a student lasts a lifetime. While it’s not expressed daily, especially in times like these - Thank you for all that you do in helping the next generation. 37 yrs later, I remember fondly how a teacher effected my family’s life
