Years ago when I was married, my husband came to me and said, “I want to go to the police academy.” I said, ok. A few years later, he said, “I want to start a business.” I said, ok. A few years after that, he said, “I want to run for office.” I said, ok.
Friends and family asked me why I never fussed or argued about any of it. I told them I couldn’t imagine him coming to the end of his life saying, “I wish I had done this or that.” Who am I to withhold a dream, especially from a partner?
Open that business. Run for office. Participate. Travel. Whatever. You’ve got one go ‘round on this earth. Make it exceptional.
P.S. He became a cop. He opened that business. He ran for office. And he passed at age 43 doing what he loved. It was a pretty good run. I wish that for all of you...a pretty good run.
