Reminded today of a time when I went to Boston with my school basketball team back in the day.
We got a new teacher from the states and I don't think he actually had any coaching experience but suspect his accent allowed him to gas it lool

Anyways, I was in year 10 playing basketball for the first time in P.E. when someone told me that the basketball team would get to go to Boston.
I've never actually cared for the sport but I'm athletic and tall, so that allowed ME to gas it lol.

It really annoyed me when I realised I actually had to go to training and play in matches. But ended up coming off the bench and getting the steal and assist for the winning point when we won some school league lmao

I think we were there for 5 days - went to shopping malls, restaurants, 2 Celtics games, in which was gassed to walk down in like 3 metres from the legend Allen Iverson, and then went back to my seat and fell asleep through the game.
Basketball fans must be gritting their teeth

Anyways, so my team is EVEN MORE gassed now. And we've got a game coming up against a school team in Boston.
Practiced in a basketball court near the hotel (Holiday Inn, Cambridge, if I remember correctly) - people are PUMPED.

We had one brudda, Mark, he was the badboy of our team. Like, we couldn't wait to show him off. Even with my disinterest in basketball, I was starting to get a little excited.
So, next day we get on the subway across the city to go to the school.

The second we got off, I could feel the vibe of the area change and saw more Black people. From there, I knew we would lose.
When we were arrived, they were warming up and THAT is when I decided to tell the coach I'd forgotten my kit at the hotel.

Why were 5'10 guys dunking? There was no chance we would win.
The only option was humiliation and I just didn't feel like I needed that.
I just sat aside and tried not to laugh, as they ruthlessly scored like 3 or 4 times as many points as us

The funniest part of this is I don't think I ever admitted to the team members I was lying.
I just saw them practice, pretended to look in my bag, closed it and sat down. I wasn't even tryna entertain any possibility of playing.
"Why aren't you playing?"
"....forgot my kit"

It was done. I was out.
Great trip, all in all.
