Arthur Smith would be an outstanding hire for the Falcons. Gives the team its best play caller since Kyle Shanahan, and a wonderful match for its current talent.

Outside of the general production, I’m big on Smith for three big reasons:
1. His OL scheme. The team was missing Taylor Lewan for a big part of 2020 and still put up overwhelming point total. ATL desperately needs an offensive scheme that can withstand loss.

2. He was a big part of the Tannehillissance, which bodes well for his work with MR.
3. His wide receivers are incredibly productive and he knows how to get players open. For an offense that had the league’s best RB, he was more than willing for force it down the field. A.J. Brown, Corey Davis and Cameron Batson all grew under his time as OC.
3b: I’d extend this to his work with tight ends, which has seen the emergence of Jonnu Smith and Anthony Firsker. I think he’d do wonders with Hayden Hurst.

My big question: how much of success came from having Henry? Can ATL mount productive run game w/o an elite RB?
Smith is a hot candidate for a reason: he took full advantage of his promotion to OC two years ago and has led one of the best offenses in the NFL for the last two years. The Falcons need someone like him to come in and provide fresh perspective. I hope the deal gets done!
