Let me address the Sam Darnold fanboys that have been in my comments all morning. So somehow you all forgot that he was the worst statistical QB in 2020 and carries a 5th year option worth up to $25M that requires a decision after the draft.
By passing on Fields/Wilson, you essentially place your trust in two things that don’t look promising. First, the coaching staff must overhaul most of Sam's mistakes in one offseason while simultaneously producing a significantly improved product on the field.
Second, not taking a QB with the 2nd pick in this draft class forces the Jets to scramble to find that alternative the following year if it doesn’t work out. Problem is, we won’t be drafting this high more than likely and the 2021 class isn’t nearly as strong on paper.
Henceforth, by the Sam Darnold defenders' logic, you’re comfortable placing all trust in a reclamation project. Rather than entrusting his ability, it seems many are emotionally unable to remove their feelings from business. The #Jets would be foolish to push back the inevitable.
