Inspired by @AmericanFietser, here's a small thread of #groceryshopping by #bike in #Oulu. It was -9 or -10°C so pretty warm for us. 1/x
I got this 100€ gift card to @LidlSuomi as a present, and also I had to take this ikea bag full of empty bottles and cans back to grocery store for refund. Can you use all of that card and transport everything by bike? 2/x
Step one. Clear your bike from excess snow. We have several safe indoor bike storage sheds, but they are badly designed 70's type: the door is just 80cm wide, and my bike is 95. A bike with more than two wheels can legally be 125 cm wide. 3/x
Step two: throw in the stuff and go. This bike is a Finnish-made #Pyrkijä probably from 1950's and weighs 48 kg

Some 500 m on that low-quality (still relatively good) bike path and we're on one of our #bicyclehighway's. Easy to ride even 4 abreast w/ hockey stuff. Sure, there is also another b.highway just 200 m from my apartment, also accessible via 2nd class b.path. #meanwhileinOulu 7/x
After a total of 1.3 km of riding, we're at the destination. There is also a smaller supermarket half the distance from my place, but the gift card I had is for Lidl. The bike racks are not too good and there's not enough of them. I'm here early to avoid crowds & Covid. 8/x
117 € worth of groceries, -11,75 from the bottle & can refund, and we have the 100 € gift card successfully used!

Back at home with my 49 kg of groceries on a 48 kg bike. Thank you for joining me on this 55 minutes of my life, of which perhaps 40 were spent in Lidl trying to decide what to buy
