here's the thing: when i spend hours of my day consuming canon & doing research to write meta analyses on why i think bkg is gay & has feelings for deku, etc. it's not bc im trying to "prove" that any of it is canon, bc i KNOW at the end of the day it's not
believe it or not, im nerdy enough that i genuinely ENJOY spending my time doing this kind of stuff. it's fun for me, & gives me a sense of validation that ik i will NEVER get from canon (or at least, have expected to never get after being queerbaited time & time again)
i am an 18yr old lesbian who has very, VERY few instances of healthy canon LGBTQ+ representation in the media i consume. i am DESPERATE for content. & what's easier than going out digging for canon rep in obscure places is taking content from a series i already love & enjoy and-
interpreting it in a way that is relatable & still makes sense within the overall story itself. THAT'S what a lot of meta is, esp within the shipping community specifically.
so what i don't get is why some people feel the need to intrude into the safe spaces of young queer ppl policing them on what they can or can't do, or invalidating them for shipping fictional characters just bc they don't understand why we do it (or bc, yknow, homophobia LOL)
when i say "bakugou is gay-coded and here's why" im not fucking saying "bakugou is definitely supposed to be canonically gay and im gonna PROVE it" but every time i talk abt him being gay-coded i need 50 different disclaimers to cover my ass so people don't come after me
it sucks all the fun out of analyzing canon & writing metas & it's really frustrating bc i don't come on here to deal with homophobic dickwads reminding me every 5 mins that the ship i really like will never be canon bc "all characters are straight!" or "stop sexualizing kids!"
when the reality is that A) the majority of these characters don't HAVE a confirmed sexuality & making straight the default ignores & minimizes the existence of queer people, and B) there isn't anything inherently sexual about a character being not straight
this sort of attitude is ignorant at best & bigoted at worst. and it only further perpetuates & EXACERBATES the stigma behind shipping & creating/consuming fan content in general. which, again, people do for FUN bc this is FICTION lmao WHO CARES
