You will note that the same folks who pretend to believe that OMG SOCIALISM will have everyone forced to eat government cheese are actually more offended at progessivism's actual goals to uplift the standard of living for *everyone*.
We are so deeply entrenched in class struggle, and so utterly gaslit by capitalism's need to give us someone lowlier to piss on, that we don't even notice how much it infuses our thinking.
Someone I love and care about a great deal, who isn't a magachud or a wangrod in general, said to me "Do you really want the trash guy eating kobe beef?" and was mildy surprised when I said YES IN FACT I DO
Like I said, not somone who is generally a jerk. We're just so deep in the narrative of what the blue-collar populace "deserves" that most of us don't see how it warps our thinking. It's background noise.
Saying out loud "Yes I want people who work hard to have nice things, in fact everyone should" is super important. It shatters a lot of unexamined assumptions we take for granted in our cultural mythology.
