On a serious note - I'm really proud of UConn Twitter right now - and everyone, really.

To me - this isn't just about supporting kids and UConn sports. It's about sending a message to people in our state. I've got a lot of dumb things to say about this, so bear with me.
It's been a rough 20 years for this state. We have the reputation for being a wealthy, prosperous place, but anyone who has lived here knows it's been a challenging 25 years. It really has been.

And a big part of that is due to dicks with calculators. Punching numbers.
And worse yet - punching numbers at the expense of our cultural DNA. The Whalers? Not 'worth' it. The Big East? "Look at the College FB money". And it's not just sports - it seeps all the way down to local issues, community issues and who we are.
I want people to understand this - I'm angry and I still am. But there's a lot of vindication in UConn being back in the Big East. For the state and the people here. It's not just about basketball.

And this stupid Hot Sauce thing is a real thing. A thing about Connecticut.
There's not a lot of positive things this state has had to rally around the last few decades. And here's everyone. Congressmen, million dollar coaches, state celebs, news anchors, guys who drop cinder blocks on their dicks for a living. People all over...
Getting together and doing something uniquely Connecticut. Together. To help. To enjoy each other. To laugh at each other. To bring us into a circle -to be w/ each other. To contribute to something we all enjoy together and care about. It's about culture and it always has been.
We have allowed New York and Boston become vacuum cleaners. They rip the populations out of here so people can live in huge cities and pay $1,000,000 to live in shoe boxes and choke their lives away. When they can have so much more here. But what's gonna make them look here?
It's stuff like this. Sure, it's sports (a little). It's drinking hot sauce. It's quirks. Its organic community. It's authenticity. And the actual real, authentic value it represents. We're flapping our gums about tax rates and other stupid shit and I get it on a level, I do..
But count the times on one hand you've felt like a big, ole Nutmeg-made tank in the last 25 years. How many times we've had something *positive* to really swing our fists about. It's not about basketball, but it is. It's not about hot sauce, but it is.
New York could offer me all the money in the world. So could Boston. I'm a Connecticut guy, always and forever. I want *my home* to be a great place that the people who made it awesome can be proud of.
We normalized drinking hot sauce nationally. It's in congress, now. I don't want to hear anyone's garbage about what we can't do and what we can't chase. You're worth it and so is the state.
I'm really proud about this and I'm thankful for the LOLs and the follows and all of it. I hope you enjoy it. But don't you ever, and I mean ever, ever let people tell you this isn't a wonderful place and a community worth building, maintaining culture and fighting for. Ever.
I am so sick and tired and frankly - exhausted about people telling me what we can't be and what we need to be when you have everything right here in front of you. Enjoy this, enjoy each other. This is for everyone.
