Moving out of America in my 20s has been a game changer.

I’ve been living in Bali, Indonesia for over a year with my girlfriend.

A Thread...
We initially moved abroad for a 6 months stay in Bali to stack some bread & elevate our lifestyle.
I was broke, struggling to find work the entire year of 2019 and I wanted to take a stab at entrepreneurship. I also wanted to get out of survival mode and tap into how I could THRIVE.
After getting rejected for jobs and living off savings trying to make my business pop, my girlfriend and I decided to book one-way flights to Bali, Indonesia.
This island has been amazing because of our elevated lifestyle at a much lower cost of living. I was paying $1300 for my LA studio. Now I have a treehouse for $400. Dec. 2019 on the left...Jan 2021 on the right.
Being a digital nomad is everything, I was able to successfully transition my graphic design business on road. I work 100% for myself; in the beginning it was challenging but I’ve grown so much as a entrepreneur.
When I think about it, it’s super clear that the move was intuitive. Bali is where I was supposed to be through it all. There was an energy about the states that I had to take a break from. Bali was the perfect medicine.
In March, when the pandemic hit and our 6-month plan went out the window, we decided to stay in Bali to “wait it out” and we’ve been here ever since.
Some majors benefits of moving to Bali:

- Safety
- Low Cost of Living
- Luxury lifestyle
- Queer Friendly
- Black in Bali community
There’s a whole community of black folks on the island. This was taken after the murder of George Floyd. We met up to be in community and love on each other.
Overall Bali has helped me heal from childhood traumas, some physical ailments (like IBS & acid reflux). The entire experience has been about healing and growth. I needed to press pause on my American life to REST & HEAL.
My baby @Saundraaa got me a puppy!
We’ve made life long friends with the locals. This is our Balinese mom Ibu Dewi, we made her some menus for her restaurant.
Honestly y’all, 2020 was the best year for me. Even with all the quarantining I was able to focus without the dictation of the American news or political drama.
We try to stay informed but for the most part we have a healthy detachment from the chaos. And it’s been rewarding to use the silence to build with my partner.
We just celebrated my baby’s @Saundraaa 30th birthday yesterday and today is our 2 year anniversary.
I don’t know where we’ll go next but I am so grateful I’ve gotten to have this experience at 28 with my life partner.
