Censorship magnifies real-world power imbalances. Censorship mechanisms will be used against marginalized members of society long, long before they're ever used against the most powerful people.
Now, after Trump's great deplatforming, white supremacists are trying to co-opt the language of marginalization. That's to be expected--these guys are bad hombres.
But I'm afraid of anti-censorship activists giving in to the Nazis' framing, letting go of the long history of how censorship has been used against LGBTQ people, sex workers, and religious and racial minorities.
In effect, watering down the anti-censorship message to a tepid both-sidesism.
Don't. Be willing to stand up to white supremacists and tell them that they still have the advantage.
