When I worked in radio and at a hotel. I was paid $10 an hour at each. I usually worked 35-55 hours a week between both jobs and depending on the season. I was bringing home 22-24k in a given year. I had to live with my parents. When my now wife convinced me to move in with her
was ashamed to admit that all I could do was pay the utilities and some months I couldn’t even do that. I never missed a day of work at the radio station or hotel and was a very good worker. I couldn’t afford any luxury items. I had to spend every dime I had on my car payment,
insurance, parking downtown and bills. When I wanted to propose I had to get a credit card and buy the ring on that so I could spread the payment over years. When the opportunities came to go full time at the radio station I jumped through every hoop bc a modest pay raise would
have been a life changer. When I failed to get the jobs I wanted I had to quit bc I wanted to start a family and could not do it at min wage. People making minimum wage work so hard. I worked harder back when I made min wage then I do now where I make much more than I did then.
A minimum wage of $15 will help millions of people. It’s life changing money for many families. I know it would have changed mine once upon a time. It doesn’t matter if they flip burgers, clean toilets, or host a radio show. People deserve to be paid an appropriate wage.
