We’re living in an anxious moment and people want to do something to feel in control. One thing a lot of us seeking some control want is access to the #Covidvaccine.  A🧵.... 1/x
Did you know that you can take control towards getting your shot AND ease the burden on health care providers at the same time?

2/
As the #vaccinerollout occurs, many are concerned about where they or loved ones fall in prioritization scales, and are particularly concerned if the or the loved one are young-ish, but have a #preexisting condition.
3/
Let’s pretend your 42 with a heart condition monitored by a cardiologist. When the cardiologist’s office is granted access to covid vaccines to give to patients, the most efficient way to convey that is via email. Gulp, how do I make sure they have my email?
4/
Do you have access to an online medical records portal for your cardiologist? It’s usually called Hospital Name MyChart/MyPortfolio? When you checkout of every medical visit, they ask if you have access or want access to this platform.
5/
If you don’t have it, can you get one? Information to create one is usually findable by googling the “Hospital Name” where you seek care and “patient resources”.   (Don’t call the number to set one up unless you have a LOT of time.)  6/
If you have access to the MyChart/MyPortfolio platforms, do you or the loved one know your username or password to access these platforms?
7/
Once you’ve ensured you have access, take a minute to check that your personal demographic data is as COMPLETE, UP TO DATE, and ACCURATE as possible. Missing/erroneous data is not the hospital’s fault.
8/
Checking that personal demographic data for accuracy is super important. The software cannot run well without good data in there. Features turn on and off based on what your personal data says. Check it again.

When my aunt did this, she 1) discovered she was eligible for a COVID vaccine at a facility down the street, 2)the hospital system is calling patients over 75 to schedule these appointments & 3) her phone number was listed wrong.
10/
Look, the cardiologist wants to get shots in arms, but don’t make her/his office call you to schedule the appt. Make sure your MyChart/MyPortfolio is ready to go, so when they get shots, they can send an email and turn on the appt scheduler tool, and you can access it. 11/
Do you or the loved one have multiple pre-existing conditions and you visit different hospital systems to receive care? Then get your online portal info ready in both systems. What if your endocrinologist gets #vaccinedoses before the cardiologist?
12/
Finally, every single person who can do this makes it easier for people without internet access to schedule an appt via phone. 13/ https://twitter.com/transition46/status/1350585398859345924
My 86 yr old next door neighbor doesn’t do #interwebz. Some people can’t afford internet access or smartphones. Let them use the phone line to schedule an appt. Let the office focus their calls to people who can’t access the shot any other way. 💉 in 💪🏿💪🏽💪🏾💪🏼💪🏻 is the goal! /end
