uhh can we talk about the fact that yesterday a TO who DQ’d a player intentionally holding up bracket—a player with a known history of doing so—got so much backlash for making that decision? like what the fuck
can we talk about that? I want to talk about that
can we talk about that? I want to talk about that
the amount of hate that was directed towards someone putting in so much for our community and the complete disregard of the work he’s done to his very face is so incredibly disappointing
and for what? to defend some asshole with no punish game and bad shitposts?

to see people—especially known players and community figures—continuously encourage armywoo with memes and tweets and shoutouts is so disrespectful to those who’ve had to deal with him disrupting their tournaments
why does our community allow and encourage this kind of behavior?

maybe it seems like no big deal to brush-off the work TOs do when it’s work that is already unrecognized and underappreciated
maybe it’s easier to do so in the netplay era where players see a pfp 1st, and our visible efforts as actual people with responsibilities 2nd

why do so many people acknowledge that “TOing is a thankless job,” yet very few care enough to change that?
why have I been running events for 5+ yrs now and I’m STILL hearing that sentiment from people with the ability to challenge that?

I honestly don’t know what more TOs can do to change the perception of our work other than what we’re already doing
I always try to thank the TOs of every event I enter and the TOs I work with. I try to TO as much as I can as best as I can, and nowadays I’m literally giving 140%

I also don’t know what to say when a homie who has been TOing for <1 yr says, “TOing is really underappreciated,” other than just agreeing bc it’s true and it’s rough and it’s usually other TOs who understand and make their appreciation known
it’s the reality of being in a role that takes a lot to do well, yet few players recognize the weight of that service
it’s the nature of being perpetually understaffed and taking on the workload of 2 or 3 or 4+ TOs, yet we keep doing so—bc if we don’t do it, who will?

we don’t TO for recognition; if we were, we wouldn’t be TOing
yes it’s sad that like <5% of attendees thank us, but it is truly demoralizing to have players who attend our events actively go out of their way to make our work difficult and to see others supporting that behavior

I don’t regret what I do, I love what I do, but I understand when TOs retire or take a hiatus or disappear entirely
when so many depend on your work but so few acknowledge that, it can feel like there’s not much reason to keep making sacrifices for a community who doesn’t care

fuck a tl;dr, read the whole thing
