So I've gotten into BIPOC doing foraging and survival tiktok and I'm learning that you can actually store many meats, including beef, for MONTHS. And it just makes me angry how unnecessarily wasteful this "culture" is.
The problem isn't meat consumption, hell even beef consumption. The problem is the capitalist meat industry which continues colonial environmental destruction and waste.
Nobody needs this level of meat production. Nobody. Even when capitalists normalize eating more meat than many of us would naturally in the environments we're in, we don't eat all that meat. Most of it gets thrown away.
Or.....they just LET IT GO BAD WHEN NOBODY IMMEDIATELY EATS IT TO SUSTAIN CAPITALISM'S CONSTANT NEED FOR GROWTH.

And even if we all went vegan, they'd just do a very similar thing to plants (they already do), which are just as important as animals.
We do need to find accessible ways we can both stop supporting industries that do this and disrupt their ability to gain profit any way we can (including supporting the hyper exploited workers), but just going vegan isn't gonna cut it.
It's not about whether or not you consume meat. It's about having a sustainable relationship with the environment around you. You can mistreat plants that are as important to life on earth as animals.
We need to decolonize and listen to indigenous people if we're going to continue being able to live on this planet. White veganism doesn't tell you the whole story and neither is it a solution.
