This has understandably caused a lot of debate - not least because @Ofstednews own excellent document debunked this. Here’s my thoughts on the live teaching issue.
1. Live teaching clearly offers many benefits. It may, if we discount every other variable, be the best way.

2. Its success is dependent on so many variables however that in many cases, it may not be most successful. Some of these variables are potentially controllable, but many are not. 2/n
3. The biggest issue is devices. For live teaching to be successful EVERY child in the household needs immediate access to a laptop or device. Families with multiple children all need to log on for their 9am live - not possible with one device. 3/n
4. Despite the DfE help, there is still a significant shortage of devices. My school is not in a deprived area. We have 70 FSM and nearly 100 PP and have been allocated 23 laptops. This will make live lessons impossible in most houses. 4/n
5. Another variable that needs considering is the balance of needs of adults at home. Live lessons places additional demands on parents. Routines are important but there needs to be an element of flexibility to support families at home. 5/n
6. This could be an never ending thread about these variables, but to quote Dylan Wiliam, ‘everything works somewhere but nothing works everywhere’. When we consider remote provision, we need to remember that context is king and that each context is different and unique. 6/n
7. Teachers and leaders will be constantly reflecting on the best practice for THEIR school. Comments like that from @GavinWilliamson are not helpful. There will be emails to schools now asking for live lessons. Let’s trust our schools to make the right choices. 7/n #edutwitter
