In honour of the mighty Dolly Parton who is 75 today I post this
the time I coordinated getting 9 x 9 foot letters into Trinity Leeds shopping centre & got 9 fabulous women to stand with them
This was a media call to promote the musical 9 to 5
The joys of PR & Comms A Thread #1
#2 The joys of PR and Comms is that all anyone sees here is nine women standing with the Dollywood - hopefully they smile and say 'ooh what's going on?' and my job is done...
#3 What they don't see is the days of work it took to get to this point
& that's fine
We're not martyrs
We enjoy the background legwork Personally the behind-the-scenes graft is my favourite bit
but it's good to recognise that if you’re planning on working with a PR/Comms person
#4 that we don't 'just write a press release'
there should NEVER EVER be a 'just' in front of the words 'write a press release'
don't get me started
*shakes fist at skies* .
#5 We prep, we research, we speak to loads of people, get to the heart of a story, get challenged at every turn, develop key messages, plan, organise, consider ways to get key messages out there, advise ...
there's more but I'm not trying to say 'ooh look at me I'm fab'
OOOH LOOK AT ME I’M FAB
Love to all the PR/Comms folk currently banging their heads against a brick wall, staring at the laptop, rocking back and forth, being ignored and insulted
Grab yourself a cup of ambition ❤️
