I think “cyberpunk” has grown past narrow definitions. If you’re putting BLADE RUNNER, GHOST IN THE SHELL (the Oshii), and AKIRA under the same umbrella, that’s a weird umbrella.

I could write a “cyberpunk” story using all real world tech, and on location shooting. “Cyberpunk” could be a documentary genre.
At this point, it’s an ink blot test of a genre where people project their interests, cultural, technological, philosophical and say “this is” and “this isn’t” but that feels very narrow to me.
