MLB forced to sell the Dodgers when they were in +$400M debt and McCourt was taking out loans to pay his players.
The Cubs are in >$1B debt right now. I don't really care HOW they got into this debt. The HOW doesn't really matter though. This is their reality.

I have zero understanding of how big debt works in MLB. Idk if this debt is going to melt once COVID is over.
But there is a precedence of MLB forcing a big market team to sell because of debilitating debt.
If dramatic payroll cuts continue beyond '22, then I do wonder...

And it's probably a 0.00001% chance MLB ever forces the family to sell the Cubs.
But bringing up "$1 billion debt" should be said over and over and over again.

And I know a lot of anger is directed at Ricketts. I get that. I'm mad too. But if we're being honest, COVID is a factor here. Revenue projections didn't forecast a pandemic. It doesn't matter though. Businesses across the country didn't forecast it and they were forced out.
All of this is to say, regardless of "intent, execution, etc" over the last few years -- $1B in debt. $1B in debt. $1B in debt.
Just for emphasis too....like I actually have no idea what I'm talking about here, so don't interpret this as "HEY THEYRE GONNA SELL THE TEAM." I'm actually wondering what people who understand this stuff think about it.
