Since @PHLCouncil is meeting with @PHLschoolboard and @SDPHite during school hours today, I have a few thoughts to convey: What is the genesis and purpose of the Board limiting public engagement? @KendraPHL @HelenGymAtLarge @Darrell_Clarke 1/6 #PhlEd 🧵
The new @PHLschoolboard policy limits speakers to 2 minutes speaking time with a total of 30 speakers per meeting. Separate committee meetings have been eliminated. 2/6 @Darrell_Clarke @KendraPHL @HelenGymAtLarge #PhlEd
This all seems calculated to limit public voice & participation. At least one @PHLschoolboard member was caught on mic calling the public "crazy". It's a tiring position to hold, I'm sure. It is also a great privilege. #PhlEd @HelenGymAtLarge @kendraforphilly @Darrell_Clarke 3/6
Whose idea were these changes? How were they vetted and discussed? Whose hand and distaste for the public is revealed here, @PHLschoolboard? @KendraPHL @HelenGymAtLarge @Darrell_Clarke #PhlEd 4/6
A @PHLschoolboard seat is not for the faint of heart. If folks aren't up to long meetings and listening to the public, then resign. Don't try to make your participation easier by cutting off the inconvenient & messy public. 5/6 @HelenGymAtLarge @kendraforphilly @Darrell_Clarke
Consider this my public testimony. Do not limit public participation for your own convenience and comfort, @PHLschoolboard. This work is hard and important. Resign if you're not up to it. 6/6 #PhlEd @kendraforphilly @HelenGymAtLarge @Darrell_Clarke
