I don’t have the energy to break down what is wrong with this tweet right now, but, lots https://twitter.com/mtgreenee/status/1352050657981845504
ok ok let me try.
1. lack of understanding that gender identity is not a sexual orientation. I expect an elected official who participates in creating legislation to understand/research issues at hand so they aren’t conflating mismatched topics
marjorie, I expect that

2. as an american representative, it is of the utmost importance that @mtgreenee respect that she represents a district of people who adhere to a variety of religions. it’s the entire reason white people live on this continent. that’s why they occupied this foreign land.
rep greene, you are not required to change your religious beliefs or be persecuted for them. but our government is explicitly forbidden from persecuting your constituents for their beliefs if they are not the same as yours.
3. it’s long been a tactic of evangelicals to apply the “standards of god” to people who reject that religion by saying “well even if you don’t believe in him, he loves you!” which is fine. i’ve read the bible and it’s fine. there’s a lot in there about expectations god has —
of “believers” and those of “nonbelievers” and rep greene’s only responsibility is what her god asks of her (to live as a female, I guess). she is the devotee of that religion, SHE is beholden to the statutes of it, other humans are NOT beholden to her. it’s in the freakin bible.
4. it is at this point pure ignorance to pretend like people are even biologically born in binary gender. there are people with/without certain organs, inconsistent hormones, sexual disabilities. even if one chooses to change gender later, it’s not that black and white for all
the addition of they/them does not eradicate the existence of she/her and he/him. it creates visible spaces for people who have ALREADY existed. and no one can be represented if they are invisible. this is every civil rights argument, over and over, learn the lesson one time
