I completed Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch. 1 Onikakushi. #HiguraShaula

Just a few observations, thoughts and comparisons to the animated versions from 2006 and 2020.
First of all, thank you @CEOofRikka for recommending me this visual novel. The first chapter is free on Steam, you can check it out.
About the game I say that I'm extremely happy it was redesigned. The game was made in 2002 so it's even older than you - Husky, and... I couldn't.
At least I know why those 2006 anime designs are looking weird as well. It was supposed to look like that at the beginning. Thanks culture progress!
The first thing I wanna point out is obvious. Yes, the game has better storytelling than the anime. There are so major cuts in the
first act. Probably the biggest issue I have is with Ooishi's character. He looks soo better in the source material. It's showed how he tricks Keiichi in their conversations to get what he wants, he acts smarter, but also more mysterious... It's completely different character.
Though there are even more irritating cuts. Of course with Rena. Her scenes were a little changed. The viewer could have understand more if they had showed that Rena talked with Keiichi a few moments before Ooishi's appearance and that's how she saw them. The final pursuit is
cut entirely what showed her as a psychopath, instead of a clear message that something is wrong with her, because she has no right to do things she could have done in a normal state.
That's the life of source reader... Because the anime is not the worst adaptation. It has its
more horror element instead of psychological like it was in the visual novel, but it doesn't tell the story wrong. It's does its job.
(btw. As I'm downloading images I've noticed that. Damn, why I didn't play with those PS3 graphics...! I have to play it again.)

Until now, when
I was writing "the anime", I meant the 2006 version. If it's not the first thread you read from me, you should know that 2020 version tells an alternative story. However, some things are the same and in few moments '20 version presents the original story... better.
Higurashi
deserves reboot, but the reboot that tells the original story. I hope after the rating failure of the newest version they'll do that someday in a few years.
At the end of that thread, I'm gonna praise the extras section in the virtual novel.
A good example of explaining the lore.
I don't know if I'm gonna buy Chapter 2 in the coming days. I know it'd be better, because after 'reading' Arc 1, I understand more things while 'watching' and I was watching Episode 9 (the beginning of Arc 3) right before starting the thread. I'll buy or not, too good for '🍘'.
