Pretty perfect example of what I was annoyed about earlier.
The £500 will help people in insecure work stay at home and isolate, not make them catch it.
The belief that they would do that is another variant on “feckless poor” narrative and needs to be binned. https://twitter.com/nighside/status/1352546023915270144

You’re fine with furlough propping up middle class jobs and happy to work from home in your secure role, but you don’t want £500 going to a Deliveroo rider who has to choose between isolating with Covid or having enough money to make rent?
Yeah, that makes me angry.
Yeah, that makes me angry.
And before anyone assumes otherwise, there is a LOT that I am critical of in regards to how this crisis has been handled politically.
But framing a sensible policy that encourages people to self isolate as “paying them to catch Covid” is cynical and has to be called out.

Oh and lastly 'but what about the systemic inequality' people.
Yes, we need to fix that. But that will take years and probably a change of government to do.
We have a problem now. Better we try something to fix it than go 'but it's not enough' and not help at all.

Disliking the current government is not a reason to leave behind or undermine the people you need to protect.
Fin, for now...
