Quick thread: There are a lot of people talking about how to deal with the racism and disinformation on Fox today. A few things:
1) Yes, it’s legal for them to say all of these horrendous things (1A).
2) No, the Fairness Doctrine isn’t coming back.
3) There are other routes.

Ultimately, it all comes down to money: 1) Advertising money
2) Carriage fee money
3) NFL broadcast money
The free market is the best and only answer to rejecting the divisiveness and bigotry of Fox.

1) In the last three years, we’ve seen dozens of advertisers bail out on Fox’s opinion shows like Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity.
Why? Most of them reject the endless race baiting and conspiracies of these shows. It’s a bad association.

2) If you have basic cable, you pay a significant carriage fee to Fox News. That’s right. YOU are paying for it.
We can and should demand that we shouldn’t have to. Call your cable companies. Or even quit them.
With cord cutting, those fees are naturally disappearing.

3) This approach hadn’t been discussed that much, but NFL broadcasting contracts are being renewed soon. There’s no reason why the NFL, some of who’s players have been vilified on Fox News, should continue to do business with the same company.
There are options when it comes to Fox News, but changing speech laws is not only not possible, it’s incredibly dangerous and not at all smart.
