In 2020, people were using social media platforms more than ever. The entire digital landscape has changed in the past year, and as we begin to bounce into this new era and toward the end of the pandemic, so will our social trends. Here are #2021’s 5 TOP SOCIAL TRENDS #THREAD
Mental Health is the New Black: #MentalHealth tanked in 2020 while Mental #Wellness trends skyrocketed. We’re entering an #anxiety economy, & consumers are flocking to #meditation, #CBD, and #kindness. Mental empowerment and spreading psychological well-being will be key in 2021.
Digital Expression: 2020 saw the rise of atypical social apps dedicated to #expression like @vsco and @tiktok_us. The anxieties of 2020 created an expressionism movement, and #creativity has become cathartic for all of us. It's time to release the creativity!
The New Digital Toolbox: Creative expression needs creative tools. As networking becomes more private, #brands are getting creative about staying in the conversation. Branded stickers, #filters, @zoom_us backgrounds, #avatars, skins, holograms - all coming into play in 2021.
Rise of Virtual Economies: 2020 saw the first bricks of the Metaverse come together. #DigitalAssets feed #VirtualEconomies, and the social world is moving rapidly closer to an immersive #virtualreality that will become part of the every-day.
@trvisXX's #Fortnite concert boasted over 45 million live viewers, and @POTUS's @animalcrossing campaign was incredibly successful. As meetings and parties move to spaces like @Minecraft and #GrandTheftAuto, this is only the beginning of the migration into the digital space.
Cultural Melting Point: Some major social assets came into play in 2020, and that will only spread further across the digital globe in 2021. #Stories, @tiktok_us clones, and #Snippets are on the rise, and #newsletters and SMS content are becoming more mainstream.
Participatory content is quickly outpacing traditional social media content from the original days of the @Facebook "Like" button, and participatory content on @Snapchat , @tiktok_us , and @FortniteGame are taking center-stage. This will only continue in 2021.
In #2021, it will be necessary to remaster content, promote interaction and authenticity, and test new formats off the beaten path to combat growing standardization. Nothing will be the same.
