I was checking some data because I kinda feel that Lyon is a more..."human" team from previous seasons. And, without any kind of really drop on numbers, there's a bit of a trend.
- Less efficiency on goal
- Some drop on the defensive side.

So, let's compare
Attacking numbers, 2020/21 v 2019/20

xG: 3.2 - 3.6
Net xG: 2.8 - 3.4
xG per shot: 0.18 - 0.16
Opponent's xG per shot: 0.09 - 0.05
xG per goal: 0.94 - 0.85
Opp. xG per goal: 0.16 - 0.08
Avg. entrances to final third: 63 - 68
Avg. entrances to box: 27 - 29
Shots: 18 - 22
Shots on target: 8 - 11
Shot efficiency: 46 - 50

So, again, those are not "oh, Lyon is not gonna win the league or the Champions League" numbers but clearly the team takes a bit more effort to score, shooting less and less effectively.
Shot charts - on goal + goals.

Both are pretty similar. The first one is the current season, where I see some little differences with more wide shots and a bit less of attempts from the edge of the box
But look at opponent's shooting chart. There are more shots in the box, from comfortable places. Last season, Lyon faced 31 shots on target, including goals. So far this one, they faced 19.
Keeping it up with the defense, the numbers are also declining.
Recoveries: 65 - 69
Recoveries in the opposition's half: 25 - 27
Tackles won %: 62 - 66
Let's come back to the attack. The touches in the box are significantly different (probably the stat were the difference is the biggest) with 43 touches in the area last season and 29 on the current one, average per game. Are they attacking different?
At first glance, the question is no: The number of left side attacks (31 - 34), central attacks (25 - 26) and right side attacks (38 - 40) is barely down, and the efficiency is almost the same (11% both seasons on the left, 15-16% on the middle, 12-13% on the right)
Where the drops is more evident is in the kind of attacks:
- Positional and counter attacks are more or less the same (83-89, 12 - 11)
- Set pieces accuracy drops off (41% v 51% last season)
- Free kicks attacks are less accurate (39% - 53%)
- Corners too (39% v 48%)
So, beyond the obvious absentees like Ada and Mbock, efficiency as come down in some particular and important parts of Lyon's game, like set pieces. Individualities + some teams defending better are responsible of this little, but clear, decline.
